Green Headquarters

06/04/2008 14:15 Mountain

Hello Friends,

A neat little article from the magazine Stocks, Futures, and Options regarding the new headquarters at PFG in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Here is the part I love:

"Further, it will encourage employee loyalty and recruitment of top individuals. Part of the reason for constructing an environmentally positive buidling is to recognize the importance of the people who work for us. If we are willing to go the extra mile to create a green buidling for our employees, it sends a message to them that we not only are concerned about the environment but are concerned about them as well- that we want to provide a healthy work environment for them."

What a cool concept. Google employs this mentality as does Patagonia, Fat Tire, and other green companies that care about their eomployees and employees families.

This philosophy is the backbone of Locals Have More Fun. Required reading for our employees is Yvon Chouinard's book, Let My People Go Surfing. As the founder of Patagonia, he became a businessman his way, on his ideals.

Locals strives to be the same type of company. Valuing our sourcers, distributors, and you, the end user.

Locals tip of the week in Park City: yard sales, yard sales, yard sales. The weather is warming up (although cold and rainy today and tomorrow), but by the weekend, the deals will be in the front yards!!!

Locals tip of the week II: FatKid Pizza in the Sidecar Bar and Restaurant. The best red sauce in Utah!

Have a great day!

Head Local Learning to Blog, Philanthropy, Etc

05/29/2008 16:50 Mountian

Hello Friends,

Head Local of Locals Have More Fun - An Environmentally Cool Clothing Company is slaving away in his cubicle, working hard in order to get a major clothing company off the ground. It is late Thursday afternoon and in 40 minutes I will be free for the weekend.
Lots of Locals work to do on Friday, but looking forward to a great weekend of getting outside as well.

As a newbie blogger/social media artist, I have tapped into the local community to help. Kendall Card of Basecamp Communications is a rockstar blogger and has even made a job out of it. Who would of thought? He linked the local ProBar to hottie Marisa Miller (she is hot) and her diet and voila, a star is born!

Anyways, it has been a productive day. Contacting Zappo's, cousin Har in Santa Fe, and tackling the financial markets (see SBUX popping off a rounded bottom). That leads me to the Philanthropy part of today's post. Working at a non-environmentally friendly, ignorant company to pay the bills at Locals only fuels the fire more to educate the masses about the world's playgrounds and how they must be protected.

I am proud to say that I have been a member of Sierra Club since the late 90's (I was still in college) and that Locals Have More Fun is a part of and a huge proponent of 1% For the Planet (see Patagonia).

Off to talk to the last client of the day.

Local Back in Action

05/28/08 15:00 Mountain

Hello Friends,

I came across a very funny blog today commenting on life in a a cubicle. It's title is Death Box Hell - Life in a Cubicle.

Locals Have More Fun is depicting life outside that box. I don't mind if you work in the box, but there MUST be time for you to get out and clear your mind. Wether you work in New York Boston, Los Angeles, Pheonix, there must be an outdoor recreation nearby.

Chicago for example has urban adventure races - The Wild Onion. New York has Central Park, Los Angeles has Santa Monica. Phoenix has Camelback.

The list goes on and on and on. 45 minutes of heart pounding exercise. There is nothing wrong with a spin class at the gym.

****

The title of today's post is Local Back in Action, meaning back in workout mode in Park City and the surrounding area. After a weekend of eating the best pizza in the world at Aiello's, I have to get the cholesterol OUT! The weekend should be beautiful and the lower elevation mountain bike trails are calling. Maybe the 24/7 loop in Jeremy Ranch.

Whatever your favorite exercise option is, go do it!! A few hours for yourself and you will be ready to tackle that cubicle and the week ahead!!

Have a great week,
Brian
